Usability is another very important aspect of your website that can’t be ignored.
It’s about putting yourself in the place of those that use your site. That clever button that looks like a flower may be your pride and joy—but maybe your visitor is confused.
We’d like to think a visitor is going to savour your fine prose, and admire your clever design but the reality is they have an agenda and precious little time. If they can’t find what they are looking for quickly or are confused—they will leave right away, and chances are they won’t be back.
There are people that study usability and plenty of books are written on the subject—I’ve got a few myself. By taking the structured approach described on these pages your site will be logical. This makes understandable navigation easy and your pages will flow.
The bottom line is that if your users can easily navigate your site and find what they are looking for it will be a positive experience for them. Now they can focus on that message you so carefully crafted.
