Content management systems (CMS)

All sites provided by Oceanwave Communications are delivered with a content management system that lets you edit your own website.

A Content Management System is really the way to go. It used to cost more to build a site this way but now it’s easy to produce custom sites with powerful CMS capabilities.

You can easily add new content to the website by yourself, edit your postings anytime, and manage virtually unlimited amounts of content on your site. CMS frameworks also make it easy to add SEO capabilities, videos, comments, and other social interactivity with plug-in modules that are often free. The reason for this flexibility and power is that these are database driven sites.

WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, and Textpattern are just a few of the better known ones. There are many more—hundreds of them—probably thousands.

These CMS ‘frameworks’ are easy to install but you will likely want to have your site customized. Customizing involves either designing and building a theme or buying a theme template and tweaking it to meet your needs.

With a CMS it’s a good idea to keep it up to date. Like software for your computer you should keep your CMS updated to the latest version so you’ll reduce the risk of being hacked.
